interesting...

Emma Goldman mugshot!
You are Emma Goldman! You are the mama of
Anarchist/Communist feminism and you inspired
millions to embrace the labor movement. Without
ever directly saying so, you directed efforts
toward saving wymyn and children from
exploitation. Oh yeah, you were also a total
sexpot!

Which Western feminist icon are you?

Update: Well, the heat is back on and things are definitely starting to thaw. I was just informed that the servers are going down at 3 because the AC in the server room is not working now as a result of whatever caused the heat to fail. (maybe the AC and the heat mortally wounded one another in a skirmish during the night) So I will probably still be leaving work early. Gee, darn!

Hello, World!

Welcome to 2004! We closed out last year moderately well. Christmas was good. We had my family over to our house on Christmas Eve where we had a fabulous dinner superbly prepared by my lovely g/f and opened presents. Christmas day we drove to Bellefonte to visit her family where we had another very nice dinner and opened more presents. We spent most of the weekend helping her folks finish the rec room in their basement in time for a party they had planned for Saturday evening. Her dad was feverishly putting up drop ceiling and we helped clean up, string lights and decorate. Her dad is big Penn State fan so they did the rec room in a Penn State theme. He created a design with the drop ceiling tiles that spells out PSU on the ceiling and the room is decorated with blue and white lights. They put up an artificial tree in the room for Christmas and decorated it entirely in blue and white lights and ornaments. It sounds like it would be utterly nauseating, but it actually looks very cool. While the party was going on Saturday, we went to visit her grandparents where we had yet another dinner and opened even more presents. They even got me something, which was a complete surprise. Her grandparents are the nicest people! Visits with them are always calm and relaxed. I also go to meet my g/f's biological father and his wife while we were there. They only stayed for a few minutes so I didn't really get to know them very well, but they seem like nice folks.

Loot report: We made out pretty good. In no particular order, and probably forgetting many things, I got a dehumidifier for the basement (which we desperately needed), several dvd's that I wanted including LOTR: The Two Towers, a very funny book called "The Decline and Fall of Practically Everybody", a pile of sweaters (also desperately needed), a jewelry box, a coffee maker to leave at my g/f's parents, a Barnes and Noble gift card, candles and accessories, stuff to organize my home office and a Lego R2D2 (cool!). My honey got a Kitchen_aid stand mixer, framed original artwork by her grandmother, a digital camera, a couple of very cool cross-stitch books and a great book about baking bread, the dvd of "Chicago", REM's new cd, Sarah McLachlan's new cd, a Perfect Pancake pan, jewelry, and a Barnes and Noble gift card. I'm sure that I've forgotten a few things, but that's OK.

We tried to throw a New Year's Eve party, but that was a bust. Most of our friends already had other plans/obligations so we only had a couple of people come over. I think it may be time to pass the New Year's Eve Party torch to someone else this year. New Year's Day we spent some time cataloging my books as we put them back up on the shelves (we painted my office last month). We used a little library database palm app to record everything so that I can keep track of what I've already got when I go shopping. I purged almost a box-full of books just by getting rid of doubles and triples of books that I already have so now I have room for more. :-)

We haven't clearly defined any resolutions for the new year other than to try to keep the house as clean as we make it for company all the time and paying off as much credit card debt as possible this year. I'd like to spend less time watching TV and more time with friends or reading or something else more worthwhile. We'll see. I don't like making hard and fast resolutions. I feel like I've failed somehow if I don't stick to them and that's not a good feeling.

Well, gotta go. Time to go pick up my honey from work.
